Sicilia e molta bella! I recently took a trip to Sicily - the wondrous, Italian island in the Mediterranean - once home to my great, great grandfather. So many traditions in my family stemmed from our connection to Sicily. Growing up so close to my grandparents and great grandparents had embedded the culture so thoroughly in my being. The family, the respect, the fun, the food, the celebration of life... It's all such a huge part of me.

My mom and I had always talked dreamed about visiting Sicily. We would have little tastes of Sicily in Manhattan, visiting Little Italy. As we ate our pasta at Il Palazzo, we'd always wonder if Palermo was anything like it. We want to eat a real cannolo! We want to smell the fresh figs and lemon in the street markets! We want to dip our toes in the Tyrrhenian sea!

With a special birthday taking place this year for my mom, I thought it was the perfect time to plan our getaway to Sicilia! Part birthday present, part chance to learn about our family's history and, in a way, reconnect with our late grandparents.

Here's a small peak at my experience in Sicily (and the outfits I donned to explore the island)!
