KREWE du Optic

By Kaitlyn Morris

KREWE du Optic is a new, local sunglasses brand with an image like none other because all products are handcrafted to capture the spirit of New Orleans. The style is naturally our own, and the company is committed to handmade craftsmanship as well as providing outstanding customer service. I spoke with KREWE's head designer and creative director, Stirling Barrett, who provided some insight on KREWE's essence.

Barrett let me know that each frame is created through an extensive process in which the glasses are touched more than 100 times before hitting your face - these glasses are built to last. He ensures the best product possible by using the industry standard for quality - Zeiss lenses and hypoallergenic acetate frames. Although the actual production is too much to take on locally, so they must be manufactured overseas; all glasses are designed here in New Orleans.

There are only a few people on the KREWE team, and Barrett tells me that they are all equally important to the brand's success. They are brand new on the market, only shipping their first frames a few weeks ago. In a city with a culture as unique as New Orleans, the overall idea for the brand is that you want to wear KREWE not because it's the cool new thing, but because it fits who you are.  The company also runs a New Orleans social blog, http://krewedupeople.tumblr.com/, that tells everything that's on about town.

Support your local artist owned businesses - KREWE's highly anticipated line is available for purchase online at http://www.kreweduoptic.com/collections/all and as an exclusive for our readers, get 15% off by using the code wearhousekrewe.
